DUE TO WATER TURBIDITY

Parts of Bulacan, NCR, Cavite to have water service interruption Sept. 16-18, 2018

Maynilad Water Services Inc. on Sunday announced that parts of Bulacan, the National Capital Region, and Cavite will have water service interruption from Sunday, Sept. 16 until Tuesday, Sept. 18.

The affected areas include barangays in Meycauayan and Obando in Bulacan; Valenzuela, Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, Quezon City, Manila, Makati, Pasay, Parañaque and Las Piñas in NCR; and Imus and Bacoor in Cavite.

According to the company, consumers in the areas may experience a reduction in their water supply from 5:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily from September 16 to 18.

The water service interruption is due to the "significant increase in the turbidity (concentration of sediments)" of the water in Ipo Dam in Norzagaray, Bulacan after the heavy rains caused by Typhoon Ompong (international name: Mangkhut), the company said in a statement.

"Heavy rainfall brought about by Typhoon Ompong has caused a significant increase in the turbidity of the raw water in Ipo Dam," the company said.

"This has constrained us to reduce the water production of our treatment plants until rainfall over the Ipo watershed dissipates," it explained.

Maynilad said it will reduce the water production of its treatment plants until the sediments in the raw water of Ipo Dam settle.

Some Maynilad customers have already experienced emergency water service interruption on Saturday, prompting the company to send 47 water tankers to deliver water in affected areas.

Maynilad urged the public to store water when supply is available.

It said that the list of areas affected will be posted daily on its social media accounts.

Maynilad also said it will deploy mobile water tankers to deliver potable water to its customers.

The company also said that once water supply resumes, the water may have some discoloration. Customers should just let water flow from the faucet for a few seconds until it comes out clear.

Maynilad apologized to the public for the inconvenience as a result of the water service interruption.

The public was urged to contact Maynilad at its hotline 1626 or 1800-1000-92837 (Cavite toll-free number), or visit its website www.mayniladwater.com/contact.php, or send SMS to Maynilad’s Text Hotline 0998-8641446. Inquiries may also be sent via email to customer.helpdesk@mayniladwater.com.ph or via the company's Twitter or Facebook accounts. —with a report from Jon Victor Cabuenas/KG, GMA News
