Typhoon Pablo prompts banks in Davao City to close

Typhoon Pablo (Bopha) forced banks in Davao City to close on Tuesday, the city government said in a note to local residents.

On its Facebook page, the city government posted a resolution by the Davao City Bankers Association Inc. declaring a non-working day among its members.

"(F)lights to and from Davao City have been suspended by all airlines in the country, preventing clearing operations in Davao City banks," the resolution read.

The association noted the need to ensure the safety of bank officers and employees in the city.

Under the resolution, clearing of outgoing and incoming transactions were suspended.

Davao City is one of the areas experiencing stormy weather after Typhoon Pablo made landfall in Davao Oriental early Tuesday.

State weather forecasters, however, noted the typhoon was slightly weaker as of 11 a.m. Tuesday. — VS, GMA News
