BSP suspends Monday check clearing operations
Clearing operations of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) will be suspended on Monday, October 16, following the suspension of government work in anticipation of a two-day transport strike.
"Following the announcement by Malacañang of work suspension in government offices, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas clearing operations for tomorrow, October 16, are suspended," it said in an emailed statement.
Clearing operations entail the processing of checks which come in and out of banks regulated by the BSP.
Malacañang announced the suspension of government work and classes for Monday in all levels of both public and private schools nationwide.
This comes as the Pinagkaisang Samahan ng Tsuper at Operator Nationwide (PISTON) is set to hold a two-day nationwide strike to oppose the government's public utility vehicle (PUV) modernization program.
Among the groups supporting the strike are Kadamay, Migrante, League of Filipino Students, and Kilusang Mayo Uno. —ALG, GMA News
