Jaguar, Corvette among 30 luxury cars destroyed in Manila, Cebu, Davao

President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday afternoon witnessed the destruction of 20 smuggled luxury vehicles—a Jaguar and a Corvette, among them, at the Bureau of Customs grounds in Manila.

To mark the 116th anniversary of the Bureau of Customs, seven other smuggled vehicles were similarly condemned in Davao; three in Cebu.

Duterte ordered the condemnation of the smuggled cars, saying that disposing of them at an auction would only give the smugglers an opportunity to secure them legally.

The destruction was a clear departure from the usual process of putting smuggled vehicles up for auction to generate additional revenue for the government. —NB, GMA News
