QEV Philippines to put up fast-charging stations for electric vehicles in SM Malls

Local start-up QEV Philippines Electromobility Solutions and Consulting Group Inc. has teamed up with SM Prime Holdings Inc. to put up fast-charging stations for electric vehicles in SM malls across the country starting February 2018.

In a statement on Monday, QEV said it partnered with SM Supermalls to put up more than 200 electric vehicle (EV) fast-charging stations nationwide before 2022.

"The installation of EV charging infrastructure will support the proliferation of the EV industry as well as aid QEV's mission to reduce carbon emissions and make use of a more sustainable source of energy in order to have cleaner and greener cities," it said.

A joint-venture between Philippine and Spanish investors Endika Aboitiz and Enrique Bañuelos, QEV launched in August a proposal to convert traditional jeepneys into green jeepneys which take around 15 minutes to get a full charge for a 150-kilometer travel.

If the proposal is adopted, the conversion will be undertaken by QEV Technologies and local jeepney manufacturers such as Sarao Motors.

The government has moved to modernize public utility vehicles on Philippine roads and ensure the units are compliant with Euro 4 standards.

The Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines also pushed for the public transport industry to use electric vehicles as an alternative to carbon-based petroleum products. —Jon Viktor Cabuenas/VDS, GMA News
