Lady Gaga's 1st night Manila concert peaceful, but fate of 2nd night hangs

The first night of controversial singer Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta a.k.a. Lady Gaga was peaceful, but authorities will maintain tight security on the second night of her concert Tuesday—if it pushes through.

 

Pasay City police chief Senior Superintendent Melchor Reyes said there was no untoward incident that marred the concert at the SM Mall of Asia, radio dzBB reported Tuesday.

 

Reyes said security will be tight for the second day, to make sure no untoward incident occurs and criminals exploiting the event are thwarted.

 

He said they are to continue coordinating with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority on ensuring traffic around the venue flows as smoothly as possible.

 

On Monday night, he said the groups protesting the concert kept their distance from the venue and dispersed peacefully.

 

But a separate dzBB report said the fate of the second night of the concert may still hang based on the report by a monitoring team dispatched by the Pasay City government.

 

The team headed by lawyer Glenn Agranzamendez was to report its findings to Mayor Antonio Calixto early Tuesday.

 

Earlier, Calixto reminded the concert's organizers that the permit he issued for the concert bans obscenity and violations of the sensibilities of the audience.

 

Last weekend, conservative religious groups called for the banning of the concert, saying some of Lady Gaga's songs had anti-Christian lyrics.

 

Despite the protests, Lady Gaga on Monday night sang her controversial song "Judas," which critics claimed glorified the disciple who betrayed Christ.

 

The dzBB report said the monitoring team's report to Calixto may help determine if the city government will allow Tuesday night's concert. –KG, GMA News
