More schools in Metro Manila suspended classes Saturday due to the heavy rain and floods that swamped parts of Metro Manila. Classes in the following schools announced via Twitter the suspension of classes for the day: - Arellano University, classes suspended in all levels in all campuses; no work for teaching and non-teaching personnel. - Polytechnic University of the Philippines; classes suspended in PUP Sta. Mesa (College, Open University, Graduate School, College of Law) starting 7 a.m. - Lyceum of the Philippines University, suspended classes. - University of the East, classes suspended except for College of Law and the Graduate School, in UE Manila and Caloocan. - College of St. Benilde, classes and office operations suspended. In Malabon City, meanwhile, public information officer Bong Padua said the Office of the Mayor is leaving to principals, parents and teachers whether to suspend makeup classes, radio dzBB reported. The Far Eastern University announced on its official Facebook page early Saturday that morning and afternoon sessions in its Manila and makati campuses are suspended. "Classes (AM and PM sessions) in FEU Manila and FEU Makati are suspended today September 15, 2012 due to continuous rains and flooding in surrounding areas. Stay safe Tams," the FEU advisory said,
National University in Manila suspended its classes in all levels. NU dean of student affairs Ricardo Ocampo said classes were suspended at all levels as of 6:15 a.m.
In an interview on dzBB radio, Ocampo said he received text messages from students that their areas were also flooded.
A separate report on dzBB radio said De La Salle University was suspending classes in its Taft Avenue, Makati and Ortigas Extension. Colegio de San Juan de Letran, which initially said there was no suspension order, announced a suspension of classes on its Twitter account past 6 a.m.
"Letranites, the Father Rector has decided to suspend classes today. Pls be guided," it
said.
It added the
suspension is for all levels including graduate school.
St. Scholastica's College in Manila suspended classes up to the college level for Saturday in the wake of heavy rain and floods.
Vice president for academic affairs Prof. Virginia Fornias issued the order canceling classes from elementary to college, radio dzBB reported.
But Fornias said graduate school students should coordinate with their respective professors on whether classes will push through, the report added.
Earlier, the University of Santo Tomas suspended classes for Saturday due to the heavy rain and floods that swamped parts of Metro Manila.
