MMDA lifts number coding on Dec 24, 25, 31, Jan 1

Metro Manila's number coding scheme will be lifted on Dec. 24, 25 and 31 and on Jan. 1, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority said Wednesday night. MMDA traffic discipline office head Yves Gonzalez jokingly added that the number coding scheme will still be enforced Friday, 12-21-12, which some claim to be doomsday. "May coding pa rin this Friday para naman hindi traffic kahit end of the world na. :)," he said The number coding scheme bars certain vehicles from major thoroughfares on weekdays, depending on the last digit of the vehicles' plate numbers. Vehicles with plate numbers ending in 1 and 2 are barred on Mondays; 3 and 4 on Tuesdays; 5 and 6 on Wednesdays; 7 and 8 on Thursdays; and 9 and 0 on Fridays. Under Proclamation No. 295 that President Benigno Aquino III signed on Nov. 24, 2011, Christmas Day on December 25 (Tuesday) is a regular holiday, while December 31 (Monday), the last day of the year, is a special non-working day. Proclamation No. 361 signed by Aquino last March 29 declared Monday, Dec. 24, as a special non-working day. Proclamation, No. 459 decreed that New Year’s Day on January 1, 2013 (Tuesday) is also a regular holiday nationwide. — DVM, GMA News
