MMDA: Number coding lifted from Holy Wednesday to Easter Monday

From Holy Wednesday to Easter Monday, motorists can cruise along Metro Manila's main thoroughfares without worrying about the number coding scheme. The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority on Thursday said the lifting of the number coding will take effect from March 27 to April 1. MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino made the announcement after a consultation meeting on Holy Week preparations, the MMDA said in a news release. Represented in the consultations were the Department of Public Works and Highways, Bureau of Fire Protection, North Luzon Expressway, South Luzon Expressway and Skyway, and provincial bus operators. Under the number coding scheme, motorists are barred from major thoroughfares in Metro Manila from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on certain days depending on the last digit of their license plate numbers. Vehicles whose plate numbers end in 1 and 2 are banned on Mondays; 3 and 4 on Tuesdays; 5 and 6 on Wednesdays; 7 and 8 on Thursdays; and 9 and 0 on Fridays. However, the scheme is lifted during holidays and weekends. Maundy Thursday and Good Friday are considered holidays. — LBG, GMA News
