PAGASA: Rain over NCR due to monsoon, yellow rainfall advisory up

The heavy rain falling over parts of Metro Manila is due to the southwest monsoon enhanced by Tropical Depression Maring, state weather forecasters said Saturday afternoon.

Saturday's rain caused floods in parts of the metropolis and prompted some schools to cancel classes in the afternoon.

In a Yellow Rainfall Advisory No. 1 issued at 1:40 p.m., PAGASA said rain was expected over the Camanava area, and Pasay, Parañaque, Taguig and Pasig Cities. This means flooding in low-lying areas is possible.

This will likely continue until about 4 p.m., it said.

"Possible flooding in low-lying areas," PAGASA advised.

Skyway flood

Skyway noted floodwater one foot high at Villamor northbound as of 1:41 p.m.

"Use caution approaching the area," it said.

Meanwhile, the Polytechnic University of the Philippines said on its website that classes in all levels, including the Graduate School, Open University and the College of Law in PUP Sta. Mesa, Manila, are suspended starting 2:30 p.m.

It said this was due to "heavy rain trigger(ing) flooding." (www.pup.edu.ph) — LBG, GMA News
