6 die in Las Piñas blaze as fires mar last day of 2014 in NCR


(Updated 10:27 a.m.) At least six people were killed while two were injured in a fire that razed a house in Las Piñas City early Wednesday.
 
The fire was one of at least three that hit residential areas of different cities in Metro Manila in the last day of 2014.
 
In the Las Piñas fire, the fatalities were described as relatives living on Nomad Street in Pulang Lupa Dos, radio dzBB's Rodil Vega reported.
 
Initially, five were reported killed in the fire. However, fire officials later located the remains of the sixth fatality, dzBB reported.
 
The sixth fatality was described as the matriarch.
 
Two more relatives were injured even as arson investigators are still determining what caused the fire.


Quezon City, Pasig fires
 
Earlier Wednesday, 50 residents in Quezon City face a homeless New Year after a predawn fire razed 11 houses in Barangay Pasong Tamo there.
 
Investigators are looking at a candle left unattended as the source of the fire, radio dzBB's James Agustin reported.
 
While no one was initially reported injured in the fire, the incident caused some P300,000 in damage to property.
 
Initial investigation showed the fire started at 3:44 a.m. and reached the second alarm before it was put out at 4:30 a.m.
 
Also before dawn Wednesday, at least one person was injured after a fire hit a house in Pasig City. — Joel Locsin/LBG/KG, GMA News
