2 NPA commanders nabbed in Caloocan City

At least two suspected leaders of the communist New People's Army were arrested in Caloocan City on Wednesday.

In a statement released Thursday morning, the Armed Forces of the Philippines said Emmanuel Bacarra and Ruben Saluta, alleged NPA commanders operating in Mindoro provinces and Pasay City in Metro Manila respectively, were arrested by joint police and military elements.

The statement added that courts in Quezon, Antique, and Occidental Mindoro provinces issued arrest warrants against the two.

It added that the two are also facing charges for violation of Republic Act No. 6968 or the Anti-Rebellion Act of the Philippines for their roles in the NPA.

"They carried out extortion activities like burning of buses and facilities in their localities," it said.

"Our operatives have been working on these cases for several months to identify the suspects engaged in different criminal activities in Southern Tagalog Regions," the military added. — Amanda Fernandez/LBG, GMA News
