P100-M worth of pirated DVDs confiscated in Quiapo

More than 800 sacks of pirated DVDs estimated to be worth more than P100 million were confiscated by authorities in Quiapo, Manila on Tuesday, a report on Unang Balita on Wednesday said.

Combined forces of the Optical Media Board and the Philippine National Police National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) swooped down on Quiapo and conducted a raid on stalls selling pirated DVDs, GMA News' John Consulta reported.

In one stall, authorities saw replicating machines used in making pirated DVDs.

A woman who introduced herself as a lawyer asked authorities to stop the raid, but she was not heeded.

Among the pirated DVDs seized were those of "Imagine You & Me" starring Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza.

The OMB said they will intensify their campaign against film piracy.

"I hope they would also understand na trabaho lang po itong aming ipinatututupad. Sana po maintindihan nila na mali po at patuloy pong magiging mali ang patuloy na ginagawa nilang pamimirata," said Atty. Anselmo Adriano, OMB chairman.

The confiscated DVDs were placed in sacks and transported on two trucks.

The pirated DVDs were estimated to be worth at least P112 million.

After the pirated DVDs are processed, these will be destroyed within the month, the report said. —KG, GMA News
