14-year-old girl killed by indiscriminate shooting in Tondo

A 14-year-old girl was killed when unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle fired indiscriminately as they rode past her in Tondo, Manila last Wednesday, according to an exclusive report by GMA News' Marisol Abdurahman.

CCTV footage showed the gunmen riding past Jazelle Justine Mallari on Antipolo Street in Barangay 217 at around 5:30 p.m., and then Jazelle suddenly falling to the ground.

The report said Mallari had just returned from swimming with her family. Her relatives say they heard a bang before Jazelle fell.

"Akala ko gulong. Pagtingin kong ganoon binalewala ko. 'Pag,' bumagsak pamangkin ko...Pagtayo ko, may tama sa mata," Mallari's uncle, Reynaldo, said.

Barangay chairman Balbina Tolin expressed frustration over the incident.

"Bigla na lang siyang namaril nang hindi siya nakatingin, basta parang to whom it may concern," Tolin said.

The family rushed Mallari to the hospital, where she later passed away.

One resident in the area, who declined to show his face on camera, said the suspects asked him about a person named "Mikoy," saying that this person had swindled them.

"May hinahanap po sa akin na pangalan na Mikoy po, yung nang-estafa raw dun sa mga tao," the resident said.

Authorities are still looking into the identity of the suspects and individuals bearing the aliases Mikoy and Amag.

Insp. Ness Vargas of the Manila Police District Station 7 said investigations found that Mikoy swindled illegal drugs and cash from the suspects.

"Onsehan or na-estafa sa droga. Onsehan sa droga. Inestafa po yung mga gunman natin sa halaga pong P6,200," Vargas said. — Joseph Tristan Roxas/BM, GMA News
