Police nab woman for allegedly stealing P17-M cash from bank

Police operatives on Saturday arrested a female bank officer in Pasig City for allegedly stealing P17 million from a Union Bank branch in Pasig City.

Pasig City Police Station chief Senior Superintendent Orlando Yebra identified the suspect as Mariebel Osorio, 41, a cash unit head at Union Bank of the Philippines Ortigas branch.

Yebra said Osorio was arrested in Barangay San Antonio, Pasig City.

The arrest was made after the Union Bank of the Philippines - represented by Cash Services Group Head Vincent Paul Castillo - learned that the suspect made an unauthorized cash transfer on Friday afternoon amounting to P17,029,000.00 from the bank's Ortigas Cash Center to its Caloocan Cash Center to allegedly cover-up the theft.

The bank immediately sought police assistance after the discovery.
