Grenade found in front of UE-Recto gate

An MK2 fragmentation grenade was recovered in front of the gate of the University of the East-Recto campus in Manila on Tuesday morning.

A radio dzBB report said street sweepers found the grenade covered with a blue electrical tape at around 5:40 a.m.

Responding members of the Manila Police District's ordnance unit closed a part of Claro M. Recto Avenue -- from Mendiola Bridge to Loyola Street -- as its members inspect the grenade.

At past 6 a.m., the ordnance policemen were able to secure the grenade.

The radio report said that according to policemen, the safety pin was still attached to the grenade when it was recovered.

Morning classes at the university resumed as scheduled after its Recto Avenue gates were opened.

Police are checking CCTV camera recordings around the area to identify the person who left the grenade. —report from Carlo Mateo/ALG, GMA News
