Man kills 5 in Pasay condo stabbing spree; attacker killed by cops


Police killed a man who killed five people, including a 12-year-old girl, and injured four others in a stabbing spree inside the 25-story Central Park Tower Condominium in Pasay City on Tuesday night.

Policemen cornered and killed the suspect identified as Alberto Garan on the condo tower's 22nd floor after a stabbing spree.

National Capital Region Police Office chief Director Oscar Albayalde said among those killed by Garan was his girlfriend, Emelyn Sagun.

The other slain victims were 12-year-old pupil Daisery Castillo, Ligaya Dimapilis, former journalist Joel Palacios and Letecia Ecsiagan.

According to a report on GMA News TV program "State of the Nation with Jessica Soho", the suspect first stabbed dead his girlfriend on the 14th floor at past 6 p.m. and pushed her body off the staircase.

Sagun's body was later found on the condo tower's basement.

Police said Sagun's sibling had seen her arguing with the Garan before the stabbing.

The suspect then went on a stabbing spree, attacking the other victims along the condo tower's hallways.

Four more people were wounded in the attack. They were identified as Belcris Elorde, April Joy Sagarino, Arlyn Dian Cordero and Margie Morales.

Based on footage from a CCTV camera, the suspect was bald and was wearing a white sleeveless undershirt, and a pair of shorts.

Police evacuated residents from the building during the search for the suspect.

The unit occupants were allowed to return following Garan's killing.

Police seized from Garan a kitchen knife, which he used in the attack, and a .38 revolver. — Margaret Claire Layug/DVM/ALG, GMA News
