Cabbie allegedly robbed by Carl Angelo executed two affidavits

The taxi driver who was allegedly robbed by Carl Angelo Arnaiz executed two sworn statements as regards the incident involving the 19-year-old who was killed by Caloocan City policemen on August 18.

According to a report on GMA News TV's QRT, driver Tomas Bagcal said in his first affidavit that it was past 3 a.m. when Arnaiz rode his cab on a highway in Navotas.

Arnaiz supposedly asked that he be brought to C-3 Road, where he allegedly declared the robbery. He allegedly got Bagcal's wallet.

The first affidavit has it that a group of policemen were on patrol when they accosted the suspect.

Arnaiz reportedly fired at the cops who shot back at him.

Bagcal's second affidavit was more specific as it said that it was at 3:20 a.m. when he took in Arnaiz as a passenger.

The narration was the same until the part when Bagcal supposedly reported the robbery to policemen.

The policemen reportedly went on separate tracks to chase the robber.

Bagcal reportedly followed the policemen and when they saw a person walking, it was the cab driver who identified him as his assailant.

The affidavit has it that Bagcal saw for himself how Arnaiz pulled out a gun to shoot at two policemen, who were supposedly forced to fire back.

According to the policemen who confronted and shot Arnaiz, there were six policemen who chased him after Bagcal reported the alleged crime.

The said cops claimed that they looked for the robber on C-3 Road and when they saw a man walking, they accosted him.

The person reportedly pulled out a gun fired at them.

The policemen shot him until Arnaiz died.

Caloocan City police chief Senior Superintendent Jemar Mondequillo said it was questionable why Bagcal would execute two sworn statements especially if they presented different versions of the incident.

Mondequillo said the PNP would study both statements in its investigation. —NB, GMA News
