Over 1M flock to Manila North Cemetery on rainy All Saints’ Day


Despite continuous rain, over a million people visited their departed loved ones at the Manila North Cemetery in observance of All Saints’ Day on November 1.

Citing police crowd estimate, a report on GMA News' "Unang Balita" by Ivan Mayrina on Thursday said that about 1.2 million Filipinos trooped to the Manila North Cemetery for the Undas.

Manila Police District Station 3 Deputy Station commander Police Chief Inspector Rexon Layug also told Unang Balita that the observance of Undas at Manila North Cemetery was generally peaceful.

"Peaceful po ang pagbabantay ng ating mga pulis, wala naman pong naitalang insidente," Layug said.

Moreover, Layug said there were no incident of petty crimes including pickpockets, adding that no liquors or any bladed weapons were confiscated at the gate his personnel were guarding.

"Wala po, lahat pati mga bladed object nakumpisa po, naiwan po sa gate natin."

But he said that a total 172 gardening materials, four bottles of liquor and also four sound system were reportedly confiscated at the other gates of the cemetery, according to Layug.

All in all, 117 police personnel were deployed at Manila North Cemetery for All Souls' Day, he said.

Earlier, Philippine National Police spokesperson Chief Supt. Dionardo Carlos said that no major untoward incidents were reported during the country's observance of All Saints Day, adding that deployment may stay continue until November 2. —Marlly Rome Bondoc/LBG, GMA News
