Cops, anti-Trump groups clash in Manila as ASEAN summit opens


A policeman was reported hurt after a large crowd of anti-Trump protesters attempted to breach the security line for the 31st Association of Southeast Asian Nations Summit on Monday morning.

The militants protesting US President Donald Trump's attendance to the regional summit clashed with the police's dispersal teams along Taft Avenue in Manila.

The dispersal teams used water cannons to stop the protesters, a radio dzBB report said.

The report said a violent dispersal happened as the protesters attempted to enter Padre Faura Street and proceed near the US Embassy along Roxas Boulevard.

 

One policeman was injured in the clash, the report said.

The clash happened as President Rodrigo Duterte opened the summit at the Cultural Center of the Philippines.

Anti-Trump protest actions started on Sunday during the arrival of the 31st ASEAN leaders and dialogue partners, including Trump.
