Stricter implementation of yellow lane policy on EDSA starts Monday

Transport officials will start the stricter implementation of the yellow lane policy on EDSA starting Monday.

According to a report on GMA's "24 Oras" on Sunday, only public utility vehicles (PUVs) are allowed to travel in the yellow lanes—the two outermost lanes on EDSA.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) said the stricter implementation of the rule is to encourage more people to use public means of transportation.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority also said that if traffic enforcers spot a private vehicle in the yellow lane, they will first determine if the motorist is truly misusing the lane before stopping it.

According to the MMDA's website, a private vehicle may use the yellow lane "when they are about to turn—provided that they start shifting lanes upon seeing the transition lane (broken white lines painted diagonally), that you can see around 50 meters away from an intersection." — Jon Viktor D.
