Solon says odd-even scheme would help decongest EDSA

A lawmaker on Monday proposed that an odd-even scheme be implemented on EDSA in an aim to decongest one of the major thoroughfares in Metro Manila.

Quezon City 1st District Vincent "Bingbong" Crisologo said that the Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program (UVVRP) or Number Coding Scheme would still be in place.

"I would prefer na three times a week huwag nang lumabas kaysa sa once a week lang na 'di ako allowed tapos 'yung sasakyan ko traffic...I've been proposing it ever since, kahit EDSA lang ho, i-odd natin kahit EDSA lang," Crisologo said.

"The rest of the cities will be 'color coding' pa rin," he added.

Crisologo claimed that the scheme would reduce at least 60 percent of EDSA's traffic volume.

He did not provide any details about what the odd-even plan would be like, but an earlier proposed odd-even scheme would ban vehicles from going through EDSA at certain times on certain days depending on the last number of their license plate numbers on top of the number coding scheme already in place.

MMDA assistant general manager for planning Jojo Garcia said that they have already presented the proposal at the last Metro Manila Council meeting.

"Nung last MMC meeting nasa agenda namin yan eh, blangko agad eh, hindi nagtagal," Garcia said.

MMDA chair Danilo Lim vowed to discuss the said proposal again at the next MMC meeting. — BM, GMA News
