MMDA to dry-run EDSA 'High Occupancy Vehicle' lane starting Monday

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will conduct a one-week dry run for the implementation of the High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) Lane along EDSA starting on Monday, December 11, at 6 a.m.

Only those with two passengers or more would have the privilege to pass through the "HOV Lane," which is the leftmost lane along EDSA, a post on the MMDA's official Facebook page on Wednesday said.

Citing instructions from MMDA Assistant General Manager for Planning Jose Arturo Garcia, motorcycle riders are allowed to use the HOV lane, aside from the motorcycle lane designated on the fourth lane.

Meanwhile, private car drivers with no companion "can still use the motorcycle lane (2nd) and third lane from the MRT (Metro Rail Transit)."

Violators will be apprehended in accordance to the no-contact apprehension policy and will be meted P500 fine.

The conduct of a dry run was approved by the Metro Manila Council during its meeting on Tuesday, the post added. —Margaret Claire Layug/JST, GMA News
