Riders protest possible banning of motorcycles on EDSA

Hundreds of riders on Sunday protested the possibility that motorcycles will be banned on EDSA.

According to a report by Katrina Son on GMA's "24 Oras Weekend," hundreds of motorcycle riders from areas such as Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, Quezon, and Pampanga conducted protested by honking their horns from the People Power Monument on EDSA to Camp Crame in Quezon City, to the office of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) in Makati City.

"Ang ginagawa nila, sinasakal lang nila nang sinasakal 'yung rider because they think that everything that happens in the street, rider ang dapat sisihin. That's not fair at all," Jobert Christian Bolanos, spokesperson of the Riders of the Philippines, said in the report.

In the report, the MMDA clarified that it did not propose the ban but is merely conducting a study to look into the possibility.

"Hindi ho kami 'yung nais na magpapasa noon na sila ay i-ban sa EDSA. Ang MMDA ho ay inatasan lamang ng MMC [Metro Manila Council] na magsagawa ng pag-aaral kung puwede ba, kung posible ba na i-ban sila sa EDSA," MMDA spokesperson Celine Pialogo said.

The motorcycle ban was proposed after a study by the MMDA showed that motorcycles were involved in an average of 55 to 57 accidents on EDSA every day. — Jon Viktor D. Cabuenas/BM, GMA News
