Work suspended in Manila trial courts on Tuesday

The Supreme Court Public Information Office announced that work at the Supreme Court, the Court of Appeals, and trial courts of the first and second level in Manila is suspended on Tuesday.

The Traslacion, which marks the celebration of the Feast of the Black Nazarene, will be held on Tuesday, January 9, 2018.

Meanwhile, Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada has also suspended work in all government offices on the same day.

The announcement stemmed from the expected traffic congestion and re-routing set in Manila on Tuesday as part of the celebration of the Feast of the Black Nazarene.

The Traslacion or the transfer of the years-old image of the suffering Christ is a tradition in which devotees of the Black Nazarene join the solemn foot procession.

Earlier, the police said almost 19 million devotees are expected to attend the series of activities set for the annual feast day celebration.

On January 9 at 12 midnight, Fr. Hernando Coronel will preside over a mass will be held at the Quirino Grandstand while Manila Archbishop Luis antonio Cardinal Tagle will deliver the homily.

By 5 a.m., after a morning prayer, the Traslacion is set to start from Luneta and end at the Quiapo church. — BAP, GMA News
