About 700 kilos mishandled frozen meat seized in Mandaluyong

At least 785 kilos of mishandled frozen meat were confiscated by authorities from three markets in Mandaluyong City early Wednesday morning, Vonne Aquino reported on Unang Balita.

The National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) team first conducted an inspection at the MCL Lucky Market where several sacks of frozen pork and chicken were confiscated because these were placed in a chiller.

The items were confiscated even though the vendor was able to present a Meat Inspection Certificate, which states that the seller purchased the items from a registered slaughterhouse.

An official of the NMIS said the meat stacked inside a chiller could be contaminated and thus cause harm to the health of consumers.

The NMIS team also visited public and private stalls at the Kalentong market where they confiscated items that were quickly kept by vendors.

The team recovered several boxes containing pork, beef, and chicken.

The NMIS said they are confiscating mishandled at this time and will impose penalties during the next round of inspection.

The confiscated items were brought to the NMIS office in Quezon City. —BAP/KG, GMA News
