Erap keen to face Alfredo Lim during 2019 Manila mayoralty race

Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada said on Monday that he looked forward to a possible showdown with former Mayor Alfredo Lim during 2019's mayoralty election.

“Goodluck to him. Ok lang. It’s a free country. Buti naman yun para may kalaban,” Estrada told GMA News.

It was reported earlier that Lim would again challenge Estrada in the 2019 local elections, despite having lost to him in the 2013 and 2016 mayoralty races.

Estrada, who turned 81 last April, revealed that his candidacy next year would be his last as he planned to retire from public service.

“My dream is to make Manila a drug-free city... I want Manila to be drug free and bring back Manila to its old glory,” the Manila mayor had declared.

Meanwhile, another showdown was also brewing between Estrada’s two sons - former Sen. Jinggoy Estrada, who reportedly wanted to return to the Senate, and Sen. JV Ejercito, a reelectionist.

“Si Jinggoy tsaka si JV, talagang tatakbo yun,” Estrada said.

Jinggoy himself told GMA News that he was inclined to run for the Senate given his good standing in the surveys .

JV, however, seemed uncomfortable with running alongside his stepbrother.

“I hope only one will run. Hindi magandang tingnan,” JV explained. — DVM, GMA News
