Man caught on video beating dog to death, sentenced to nine days in prison

The man who was caught on video in March beating the head of a dog in Caloocan City has been convicted and has served time for violation of the Animal Welfare Act.

According to Chino Gaston's report on "24 Oras", Roberto Olivar spent nine days in prison and paid the P5,000 fine meted by the Caloocan Metropolitan Trial Court.

"May aral yung nangyari sa kin dun. Wag sana nilang paparusan yung mga hayop... sana alagaan nila," a repentant Olivar said.

It was the Philippine Animal Welfare Society that filed the  animal cruelty complaint against Olivar.

"Di natin dapat pabayaan na ang ga animal offnders sa ating society ay hindi magsa-suffer ng legal consequences kasi baka ang susunod na biktima ay pamilya nyo na," PAWS official Anne Cabrera said. —NB, GMA News
