MIAA apologizes for inconvenience due to Xiamen plane incident

The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) on Friday apologized to airline passengers for the inconvenience caused by a Xiamen Air flight that skidded off and blocked the main runway at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

"We offer no excuses just a promise to bring NAIA flight operations back to normalcy by tomorrow using all our internal resources and if needed, employ outside resources notwithstanding the cost it will entail to MIAA,” MIAA General Manager Ed Monreal said in a statement.

Nevertheless, Runway 06/24 would remain closed until 5 a.m. on Saturday.

None of the 157 passengers and 8 crewmen were injured during Thursday evening's Xiamen Air Flight MF8667 mishap.

However, as the aircraft had yet t be cleared from the runway, over 60 NAIA flights had been cancelled while several others were deferred. — Margaret Claire Layug/DVM, GMA News
