FIREFIGHTERS ON STANDBY

Gas leak in Makati’s Barangay Bangkal

Fire fighters are on standby in Barangay Bangkal, Makati City, for any eventuality because of a leak at a gas station, according to a tweet by Super Radyo dzBB.

“There was a gas leak at a gas station of ‘@phoenixfuels’ ... Firefighters are on standby in the area.”

The gas station carries the Phoenix Petroleum brand, owned by Phoenix Petroleum Philippines Inc., an independent oil company.

“There is an alleged gas leak in this particular area,” dzBB said in a separate tweet, quoting Makati City Vice Mayor Monique Lagdameo.

“Last night, a resident complained that they were getting a whiff of something not right. So, since last night, we talked to the barangay captain here,” she said.

As of this posting, members of the Makati Bureau of Fire Prevention (BFP Makati) are doing water “flushing operations” in canals around the gas station.

“If we will ignore this, we might have a fire or an explosion,” Lagdameo said.

“Very cooperative ang gasolinahan, ang management, at lahat ng kumakatawan dito,” the vice mayor added.

Lagdameo said personnel and equipment from city's disaster management office and fire department have been positioned in the area.

Residents near the area have been advised to refrain from smoking and doing other activities that would increase the risk of fire and explosion.

“Kung papabayaan po natin, syempre gasolinahan po ito, baka po tayo ay magkasunog dito o may sumabog,” she said. — with Margaret Claire Layug/VDS, GMA News
