PNP to issue new uniform for patrol cops

MANILA, Philippines – Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday said it will issue new uniforms for its patrol unit, as it continues to crack down on robbers who wear SWAT and police uniforms to mislead or intimidate victims. Radio dzBB’s Benjie Liwanag said the directive to replace the present uniforms came from PNP chief Director General Jesus Verzosa who also ordered a tighter watch on stores selling police uniforms. The replacement of the present uniforms came in the wake of investigations on the rampage in a subdivision in Parañaque Friday last week that left ten robbers, four civilians, a security guard, and a PNP Special Action Force official killed. The robbers were suspected members of the nortorius Ozamiz and Waray-Waray robbery gangs, who have been known to disguise as policemen. On Monday, police killed two more suspected robbery gang members in a predawn encounter in northern Metro Manila. - Sophia Dedace, GMANews.TV
