Pagasa sees 38-degree Celsius weather in summer

MANILA, Philippines - Filipinos can expect a scorching summer followed by heavier rains all due to global warming, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said. Pagasa head Prisco Nilo said Monday that while the summer will bring temperatures of up to 38 degrees Celsius, the rainy season will bring more floods and heavier rainfall. “Inaasahan natin 37 to 38 degrees ang temperature na pinakamainit sa Metro Manila, last year umabot tayo ng 37. Hindi lalayo yan sa temperature na aabot ng tag-init this year)," he said in an interview on dzXL radio. [We expect temperatures of 37 to 38 degrees in Metro Manila. Last year we experienced temperatures up to 37 degrees. This year will be similar He said the global warming may result in some islands being “erased" from the map since water levels will go up and some areas in the country may sink.] On the other hand, he said that once the rainy season comes in during the last week of May, it will bring about heavy rains. Even the cyclones that hit the country during the middle part of the year may threaten to be more powerful, he said. “Magkakaroon ng kaibahan sa ibang aspeto ng climate change. madalas tayo magkakaroon ng heavy rainfall events. madalas magkakaroon ng malakas na pagulan. At halimbawa mas marami ang mas malakas na bagyo papasok sa area of responsibility," he said. [When the rainy season comes we will experience the other side of climate change. There will be heavy rainfall and the cyclones that will pass through our area of responsibility will likely be more powerful.] - GMANews.TV
