New local leaders for Quezon City proclaimed

The new set of local leaders for Quezon City, led by mayor-elect Herbert 'Bistek' Bautista, have been proclaimed on Tuesday afternoon. Bautista, running under Liberal Party, won in landslide victory with 497,965 votes to lead the country's richest and most populated city. The former city vice mayor ran against former Cabinet secretary and presidential chief of Staff Mike Defensor, who garnered only 126,246 votes in the city's four districts. Video embed link:

Josefina "Joy" Belmonte, also scored a clear victory with 501,129 votes against closest rival actress Aiko Melendez, with only 121,941 votes. Joy Belmonte is the daughter of outgoing mayor Feliciano "Sonny" Belmonte Jr., who was likewise elected as Congressional representative of the city's 4th district. The elder Belmonte had 99,474 votes. In the rest of the city's districts, the Congressional races have likewise been as noteworthy. For the first district, re-electionist Vicente "Bingbong" Crisologo won against Vivienne Tan, daughter of taipan Lucio Tan. Former city councilor Winston Castelo likewise won, albeit by only a margin of 2,000 votes, against Sonny Belmonte's nephew Jose Christopher Belmonte. Mike Defensor's father Matias Defensor Jr. lost to councilor Jorge Banal Jr. for representative of the city's third district. Living up to its title as the 'City of Stars', local elections in Quezon City also saw a rise, and fall, of actors who tried their luck in politics. Actors Alfred Vargas, Roderick Paulate, and Precious Hipolito are leading the polls for councilors of the second district. Giancarlo Sotto, actor and son of Vicente Sotto III, who currently sits at 9th place in the Senatorial race, was also elected as councilor for the third district.
