The Grade 1 teacher of the late Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo, along with his subordinates at the Department of Interior and Local Government, on Wednesday recalled his virtues, from leadership to simplicity, as they attended Masses in his honor.

Masses were held for Robredo in his native Naga City in Bicol, and at the offices of the Interior Department and National Police Commission in Metro Manila.

In Naga City, radio dzBB's Allan Gatus quoted a Grade 1 teacher of Robredo at the Naga Parochial School as saying Robredo was "not extra bright" but very "studious."

"He was a good leader in my class," the teacher said, adding Robredo would remember her on her birthday with greetings via text messages.

In Metro Manila, dzBB's Rodil Vega reported Robredo's subordinates at the DILG in Quezon City recalled he would never use his rank to gain privileges.

They said Robredo would never use an express elevator reserved for senior officials.

A tarpaulin at the DILG multipurpose hall where a Mass was held for Robredo showed an image of the late secretary.

"Ang buhay ay may saysay kung mamamayan at bayan ay matuwid, mahusay at marangal na paglingkuran," the message on the tarpaulin read.

Meanwhile, in Makati City, dzBB's Sam Nielsen reported National Police Commission employees planned to play songs Robredo liked, along with "Simply Jessie" by Rex Smith. –KG, GMA News
