LTFRB suspends 6 units of Victory Liner after deadly Nueva Ecija collision
(Updated 11:41 a.m.) The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board has suspended for 30 days six units of the bus firm involved in a road accident that killed at least nine people in Nueva Ecija Wednesday.
In a post on its Twitter account, Victory Liner said the franchise suspended by the LTFRB covers six buses plying the route between Metro Manila and Isabela province.
"LTFRB suspends the franchise of the bus involved in the accident. This franchise covers six bus units in the Manila-Isabela route for 30 days," it said.
The suspended Victory Liner buses carry the following plate numbers:
- CWR195
- CXA570
- CWP265
- CWP266
- CXN733
- CXP713
According to the television report, the LTFRB also wants an inspection on the roadworthiness of the buses, and a road safety seminar for the drivers and conductors, as well as compulsory drug testing. Victory Liner must also submit the certificate of registration and official receipt of the affected buses. The company was also given 72 hours to submit show cause why their certificate of public conveyance should not be suspended, cancelled, or revoked. There will be a hearing on October 2, the report said.
At the same time, the LTFRB tasked the Highway Patrol Group, the Metro Manila Development Authority and Land Transportation Office to impound the buses should they be seen on the road.
An initial investigation showed the bus swerved to avoid hitting a motorcycle but still snagged it, then collided head-on with a tanker truck.
The fatalities included the drivers of the truck and bus, and the two passengers of the motorcycle. — with Carmela Lapeña/RSJ, GMA News
