Laude's family seeks P200M in civil damages from Pemberton – lawyer

The family of slain Filipino transgender Jeffrey “Jennifer” Laude is seeking P200 million in civil damages from suspected killer Lance Corporal Joseph Scott Pemberton of the US Marines.

 

In a text message to GMA News Online, lawyer Harry Roque, the family’s counsel, said the Laudes wanted “P100 million moral and P100 million exemplary as civil damages.”

 

GMA News TV’s Balitanghali quoted Laude’s sister, Malou, as saying they wanted the incident to serve as a lesson to other foreigners that killing a Filipino has entails heavy repercussions.

 

The report said the Laudes made the manifestation during the resumption of hearing on the death of Jeffrey on October 11, 2014. Pemberton was charged with murder in connection with the incident.

 

Cross-examined during the hearing was Chief Inspector Edmar dela Torre, who led the Scene of the Crime Operatives team that sifted through the crime scene.

 

Laude was found dead inside a toilet in Celzone Lodge.  

 

One of the witnesses, Mark Clarence ‘Barbie’ Gelviro earlier identified Pemberton as the last person with Laude the night the transgender was killed. – VS, GMA News
