Akihito visits Malacañang, offers flowers at Laguna WW II shrine


Japanese Emperor Akihito on Friday offered flowers at a Laguna shrine built for Japanese soldiers killed during Japan's World War II occupation of the Philippines.

On Wednesday, Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko visited  Malacañang Palace and were met by President Benigno Aquino III and Cabinet officials.

The emperor is in the Philippines for a five-day state visit, the first such visit of a Japanese head of state since World War II.
