Duterte vows to rid country of illegal drugs, corruption in 3-6 months

After the Sunday's PiliPinas Debate 2016, presidential candidate and Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte made his way to Cagayan de Oro City's downtown area where he spoke to a crowd of around 3,000 and promised to rid the country of illegal drugs and corruption in three to six months.

“Sa mga nasa negosyo ng ipinagbabawal na droga, maghanap na kayo ng ibang trabaho habang matagal pa ang eleksyon, dahil sisisguruhin ko may kalalagyan kayo,” Duterte said to the receptive audience.

In a speech peppered with punchlines, Duterte boasted that criminals, drug lords, and drug pusher in Davao City were frightened of him. And he had the ability to remake the entire country into Davao City's image if he is elected president.

He also repeated his promise to double the salaries of the National Police and the Armed Forces. “Uutusan ko sila (mga pulis at sundalo) na patayin ang mga drug pushers at drug lords. At kung may kaso, aakuin ko,” Duterte said.

The mayor, while admitting to be a womanizer, also said that he had the best interests of the poor at heart. “ [T]hese poor people are seeking their savior and that is my purpose why I run for president of this country,” Duterte said.

“I will do my oath taking in my office not in Luneta and I will not serve food either for the visitors”, he assured his audience. — DVM, GMA News
