Trillanes: No need for a coup as Duterte administration self-destructing

Senator Antonio Trillanes IV on Tuesday mocked the claim of the Cabinet Secretary Leoncio Evasco that a coup plot was brewing to unseat President Rodrigo Duterte.

“Hindi totoo ‘yan. Alam mo, hindi mo na kailangang mag coup sa gobyerno na’to dahil nagsa-sarili naman,” Trillanes said. “They are self-destructing.”

“Ang problema dito, what is unfortunate is, they’re dragging the whole country down. Sinasabi nila the hearings are the source of negativity dito sa Pilipinas. Hindi yun, Presidente nila, murahin mo lahat, paano na?” he said.

Cabinet Secretary Leoncio Evasco earlier said a coup against Duterte remains a possibility because there are personalities who are unhappy with the administration, such as Senator Trillanes and the Liberal Party.

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) for its part said it was seriously looking into reports of alleged coup plot, but stressed that the morale of the soldiers remain high.

Trillanes, a former military officer, said the AFP will remain intact as long as the “chain of command is true to their mandate.”

“The Armed Forces, to the credit of President Aquino, na-professionalize niya ranks, kaya hindi yan magkakahati-hati," Trillanes said.

"They will move as one and they will follow the chain of command for as long as the chain of command is true to their mandate sa estado at sa ating mga kababayan,” he added. —NB, GMA News
