‘TO BE CERTIFIED URGENT’

Duterte wants mandatory ROTC for senior high school —Piñol

President Rodrigo Duterte wants the mandatory Reserve Officers' Training Course back in the country's schools, this time for those in Grade 11 and 12.

Agriculture Secretary Manny Piñol, on his Facebook page, said the proposal for mandatory ROTC training would be forwarded to Congress and would be certified as urgent.

Piñol made the announcement after the Cabinet meeting in Malacañang on Tuesday afternoon.

He said that the mandatory ROTC program will be applicable to both public and private schools.

Piñol said Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana proposed to amend Republic Act 7077 or the "Citizen Armed Forces or Armed Forces of the Philippines Reservist Act" to again make ROTC mandatory.

"Lorenzana said ROTC instills patriotism, love of country, moral and spiritual values, respect for human rights and adherence to Constitution," Piñol said. —NB, GMA News
