CHED imposes moratorium on school field trips

The Commision on Higher Education on Tuesday imposed a moratorium on all field trips and educational tours in all public and private colleges and universities following the bus incident in Tanay, Rizal which claimed 15 lives and left more than 30 others wounded.

“Napagkasunduan ng CHED en banc na ipatupad ang moratorium sa educational tours and field trips,” CHED Commissioner Prospero de Vera said was quoted by radio dzBB as saying.

CHED also advised colleges and universities to develop other options in exchange of field trips or educational tours.

“We want to hear from the school on the circumstances related to their trip and do a parallel investigation on compliance with CHED regulation,” De Vera said.

Earlier in the day, De Vera called for the moratorium until the investigation on the bus tragedy is completed.

“I will request the Commission en banc today to immediately issue a directive to all higher education institutions so we can properly investigate this tragedy and review current policies covering field trips,” De Vera said in a statement. — Marlly Rome Bondoc/RSJ, GMA News
