Aguirre’s witness expresses doubt on ambush

Lalaine Madrigal Martinez on Wednesday cast doubt on whether or not she was ambushed as the Justice Sec. Vitaliano Aguirre II claimed.

"Sa akin naman, hindi ko masabing may nagtangka sa buhay ko o baka naman ligaw na bala," Martinez said in an exclusive report by GMA News' Susan Enriquez on "24 Oras."

Martinez said she came from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and was already near her house when the incident happened.

Martinez said she immediately called Aguirre upon arriving at her home in fear of her life, the report said.

Martinez said she knew Aguirre since her husband, drug convict Noel Martinez, was under the witness protection program after testifying against Sen. Leila De Lima.

Last week, Aguirre claimed that the car of Martinez was ambushed early Friday at Circuit Makati, previously known as Sta. Ana racetrack.

Martinez is Aguirre's informant on the alleged P100-million bribe offer by former Sen. Jamby Madrigal and Laguna Rep. Marlyn Alonte-Naguiat to high-profile inmates of the national penitentiary to recant their testimonies against Senator Leila de Lima. —Joseph Tristan Roxas/NB/RSJ, GMA News
