Aguirre: Atong Ang was planning fake ambush scenario

Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II on Thursday claimed that there was a plan by gambling operator Charlie "Atong" Ang to create a fake ambush scenario this weekend so it could be used as justification for conducting a Senate probe.

"I received a reliable information na this weekend ay mayroong mag-i-stage ng 'ambush me.' Para yung pagambush na yan, kami na naman ang pagbintangan ni Secretary Esperon na siyang nagpaambush sa kanya," Aguirre said in a chance interview.

"Itong ambush me na ito gagamitin naman ng isang senador para ijustify yung kaniyang pagtawag ng Senate investigation," he added.

Ang had earlier accused Aguirre, National Security Adviser Hermogenes Esperon, and some retired generals of planning to kill him. Aguirre and Esperon have denied the allegation.

But Senator Antonio Trillanes IV earlier filed a resolution urging the Senate Blue Ribbon committee to probe the claims of Ang.

Ang is the consultant and general manager of Meridien Vista Gaming Corporation which runs the virtual jai alai numbers game the government claimed was competing with state-sanctioned small town lottery.

Aguirre called on Ang to bring witnesses to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) that he tasked to look into Ang's death threat claims. Ang had claimed that Aguirre had tasked the NBI in the slay plot. —JST, GMA News
