Joy Belmonte, major Robredo backer in LP, switches allegiance to PDP-Laban

Quezon City Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte was among former Liberal Party members to make the latest shift to the administration party, PDP-Laban.

Belmonte is the daughter of former House Speaker and incumbent Quezon City Rep. Feliciano “Sonny” Belmonte Jr., LP vice chair.

She was one of the main movers of the successful campaign of Vice President Leni Robredo.

The younger Belmonte, along with city councilor Gian Carlo Sotto, took their oath on Wednesday night, to enter the party of President Rodrigo Duterte.

They were sworn in by Senate President Koko Pimentel, the ruling party’s president.

Among those present was the councilor’s father, Senate Majority Leader Tito Sotto, a supporter of President Rodrigo Duterte.

In her Facebook post, the younger Belmonte said: “May this new chapter in my life help me to achieve the ‘change that I so desperately want to see in the world’ (as Gandhi would say).”

The vice mayor’s formal move to PDP-Laban came hours after five LP stalwarts were sworn into the party by House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez.

GMA News Online has sought comment from her and her cousin, Quezon City Rep. Kit Belmonte, LP secretary-general, but they have yet to respond. —NB, GMA News
