Military operations focus on 20% of Marawi City under Maute control

Clearing operations in Marawi City continued Wednesday morning, over a week after jihadist Maute Group laid siege to the predominantly Muslim provincial capital of Lanao del Sur on May 23.

Reporting from Marawi City,  dzBB's Benjie Liwanag said Wednesday morning that government security forces are targeting a little over 20 percent of the city's area where members of the ISIS-inspired jihadist group are hiding.

Liwanag said that government forces have so far rescued some 900 civilians trapped in skirmishes since the Maute Group launched the attack on the city early last week.

Meanwhile, the terrorist group is still holding a the Catholic priest and parishioners they seized from a Church in the early days of the attack that prompted President Rodrigo Duterte to place the whole of Mindanao under martial rule. —LBG, GMA News
