Only 10 soldiers died in friendly fire incident in Marawi – AFP spokesman

The spokesman for the Armed Forces of the Philippines clarified on Friday that 10, not 11 soldiers, were killed following a military airstrike in Marawi City on Wednesday.

At a press briefing in Malacañang, Brig. Gen. Restituto Padilla said that the earlier figures announced by Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana that there were 10 soldiers killed in the airstrike, was correct.

Padilla said the additional fatality was during a firefight with Maute members in Marawi.

On Thursday, Lorenzana said 10 soldiers were killed while eight others were wounded following the friendly fire incident in Marawi. He later changed the number of wounded to seven.

But in a press conference in Camp Aguinaldo, Padilla said the number of fatalities was 11.

Armed Forces chief General Eduardo Año has created a Board of Inquiry to conduct an investigation on the matter. — with Trisha Macas/RSJ, GMA News
