Arrival honors, Mass held as fallen troops brought to PHL Marines HQ

The remains of eight of the 13 Marines killed in the ongoing skirmishes in Marawi City were brought to the headquarters of the Philippine Marines in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City on Monday.

According to Steve Dailisan’s report on News To Go, the following fallen Marines were given arrival honors, coinciding with the 119th celebration of Philippine Independence Day:

• First Lieutenant Frederick Savellano
• First Lieutenant Raymond Abad
• Staff Sergeant Joven Triston
• Sergeant Simeon Plares
• Corporal Rolan Sumagpang
• Private First Class Gener Tinangag
• Private First Class marvin Russel Gomez
• Private Bernie Jhon Lunas.

Vice President Leni Robredo, who came to extend condolences to the families of the troops, was among the officials present during the arrival honors.

The fallen soldiers are currently housed at the Marines headquarter’s Acero Hall, where a Mass was held for them after their arrival.

The families of the eight fallen Marines then received the Military Merit Medal in their behalf.
