BATO: SHAPE UP OR BE SENT TO MARAWI

PNP’s 160k cops commit to lose 500k lbs total in 6-month fitness program

The 170,000-strong Philippine National Police on Tuesday committed to lose at least 500,000 pounds collectively for six months in an effort to ensure the fitness of policemen and prevent them from suffering lifestyle diseases.

PNP chief Director General Ronald Dela led the launching of Mission: Slim Possible in a two-round four-minute workout at the Camp Crame Grandstand and told his men to take the opportunity to shed some pounds off their weight.

“Ang programang ito ay para sa inyo. Losing weight is certainly a very challenging endeavor, but it can be very fulfilling. I set this challenge to every policeman and policewoman who needs to shed some pounds to not only work better but also to look better,” Dela Rosa said.

Dela Rosa said he had been concerned about the health of some of the members of the PNP. He said the lack of physical fitness had been affecting the performance of some police officers

“Sound body, sound mind di ba? At saka maiwasan na yung kaso ng pulis na na-bedridden dahil sa diabetes, dahil sa high blood, dahil sa cholesterol," Dela Rosa said.

"Maraming kaso ang pulis na ganoon e, napabayaan yung health. This time magfocus tayo,” he added.

Dela Rosa urged his the police to commit to the program and lose weight as a personal endeavor not as a command guidance from the PNP chief.

“Personalin nila ito, wag niyo sabihin na command guidance o instruction from Chief PNP," Dela Rosa said.

Sweat it our or go to Marawi

Dela Rosa said those who refuse to shed the pounds could instead be sent to conflict-stricken Marawi City and fight the ISIS-inspired Maute group.

“Kung gusto ninyo ma-shortcut yung inyong pagre-reduce, papadala ko kayo dun sa Marawi, ipaipit ko kayo sa bakbakan sa gitna ng Marawi City mismo para wala na kayong pagkain para papayat kayo,” Dela Rosa said, drawing laughter from the cops.

Dela Rosa pointed out the five policemen who were rescued after being trapped in Marawi City. He said all lost weight after going missing for more than two weeks.

“Tingnan niyo yung mukha nila ang papayat, mas maganda kung maipit ka ‘run at mag-reduce ka ng timbang,” Dela Rosa said.

Asked how many pounds he is willing to lose, the PNP chief replied that he will lose as much as he can, saying his body is a composition of fat and muscle.

“As much as possible gusto ko malaking weight yung maibigay ko,” Dela Rosa said.

“Yun nga ang problema ko, I am overweight not by flab, by pure fat, pero mixture ng muscle at saka fat kaya mahirap i-segregate yung muscle from fat. But anyway, mahirap talaga pero mag-reduce pa rin ako,” he added.

Dela Rosa also showed off Camp Crame’s newest fitness gym donated by San Miguel Corporation president Ramon Ang. He said even the public is free to workout in the gym free of charge. —NB, GMA News
