China gives P15M for Marawi City relief, rehabilitation

China has donated P15 million to the Philippines for the relief and rehabilitation efforts for Marawi City, up to 40 percent of which has been destroyed in protracted clashes between government forces and the ISIS-inspired Maute group.

In a statement, Malacañang said President Rodrigo Duterte and Social Welfare Secretary Judy Taguiwalo accepted the check for the donation from Chinese Ambassador Zhao Jinhua.

The money is expected to beef up the resources of the Department of Health and Department of Social Welfare and Development for the relief and rehabilitation of the city.

More than 240,000 persons have been displaced by the clashes as of early June, according to the crisis management committee of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

“The said donation from China to the Philippines is an example of the flourishing partnership between the two countries and their shared commitment towards sustainable peace in the region,” the Palace statement said. —NB, GMA News
