DepEd: 10 schools destroyed in Marawi, repairs to cost up to P800M


The clashes and bombings in Marawi City have destroyed ten of the city's public schools, affecting more than 22,000 students, the Department of Education said on Monday.

An initial report said the schools could take as long as one year to rehabilitate with the cost amounting to as much as P800 million.

According to a report by Ivan Mayrina on "State of the Nation with Jessica Soho", the damaged schools are as follows:

  •     Raya Madaya I Elementary School
  •     Raya Madaya II Primary School
  •     Marinaut Elentary School
  •     Mabuay Elementary School
  •     Mamintal Disomangcop Central Elementary School
  •     Madayo Lilod II Elementary School
  •     Banggolo Elementary School
  •     Marawi Central Elementary Pilot School
  •     Dansalan Pre School
  •     Racman Pimping Maniri National Senior High School (NSHS)

"Meron kaming isang paaralan na ninakawan. They were looted," Education Assistant Secretary Atty. Tonisito Umali said.

Umali was referring to the Racman Pimping Maniri NSHS.

"Kapag hindi na talaga kakayanin ng isang paaralan, we use temporary learning spaces, we use tents, at 'yung make-shift classrooms," Umali said.

Meanwhile, more than a thousand of Marawi's teachers are currently undergoing psychological debriefing.
